Network television is changing. They are reshuffling the deck to appeal to larger audiences. They are getting rid of liberals, but they are really getting rid President Barack Obama’s musings and anyone who can’t appeal to the dominant political mass.

People will be moved whether it is Melissa Harris Perry, Al Sharpton, Toure, Joy Reid, Ronan Farrow, Alex Wagner, Jose Diaz-Balart or anyone else. That is just business, but why didn’t these brown faces see the writing on the wall?

Melissa Harris Perry walks off her show after pre-exemptions

Why…because these brown face head shots were pretending that influx of brown faces on big screens, small screens and network news wasn’t due to Barack Obama’s presence. As his term winds down these people should have been reflective of the process that gave rise to many of the brown faces we seen daily. Reflective that Barack Obama’s travails allowed these brown faces to provide better for their families, to change zip codes to create viable platforms.

Even though some of those brown faces took their benefactor to task for two terms and eight long years, thanks is still due. They have yet to thank him for the paychecks, the raises, the platforms or the notoriety. Without Obama these brown faces would have kept the marginal outlets they had before his candidacy.

Race and Identity Polices personified

I get it; you earned this position on merit…right. Unfortunately, America seldom works like that—hardly ever. Many of these brown faces did great jobs with their shows and platforms, but no great job a brown face does would be as great as someone with a white one.

                                          Dear: Melissa Harris Perry,

This is not about you. This is about President Barack Obama.

I know Melissa Harris Perry and her audience, didn’t like the repeated back and forth cuts between her segments and election coverage. A lot of people are ‘stanning’ for Melissa, Nerdland, and for a show that featured race and identity politics and Melissa never did get that Beyonce interview. Ultimately, Melissa’s insistence on discussing of Beyone’s video “formation” instead of the political race may have been the last MSNBC straw.

The cycle is changing and Melissa Harris Perry has an audience, a following and agendas behind her…she’ll be fine.

We have the biggest best military,

We have the smartest people,

we are dropping bombs,

using troops,

laws,

sanctions,

aircraft carriers,

x-rays,

body scanners,

pat-downs,

we have all these cameras and  computers, but no matter what we do, it seems like bad

things are supposed to happen.

We headline all the bad things and bury the good ones.

We focus on war, violence and the mistreatment of others.

We keep spending and spending,

We burn with hate, live in terror and spread fear

–that can’t be right

–that can’t be right

—it just can’t be.

Somebody somewhere throws a rock and it changes the lives of everyone, that’s crazy.

And by bad things, I am not just talking about war and terror.

Whether you believe in evil or light and dark forces or not,

you have to admit that a lot of things that happen seems senseless.

It seems, that every time someone give into vices, it is somehow connected to something larger

something that pushes us towards an avoidable end.

Towards happenings that had to happen and couldn’t have happened any other way.

It’s just too easy to do the wrong thing.

I guess that’s how you know that it’s wrong.

Is this the way thing are supposed to be?

Are we already in hell?

One Generation Away

I am one generation away.

One generation away from working in the fields for $6 a day.

One notion from being smuggled across the border in the back of a truck.

One meal away from always being hungry,

one action away from being beaten,

one decision from being hopeless,

one nation away from rumination.

I know what people call me. I know what they say,

but I have my arms outstretched on my journey to faith.

One generation away.

We are confronted with the undeniable truth that conservatism has and is failing America. The “George W. Bush” administration had it’s time to lead, and it failed. It’s long past time for the country—in particular older people—to embrace the “hope and change” heralded with the arrival of Barack Obama, as the youth have clearly done. Before Barack Obama was elected he not only promised change he promised to remake the world. Obama promised health care. Obama delivered on that promise. Obama promised to allow gays to serve openly in the military by repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. Obama delivered on that promise. Obama promised to fight terror. Obama has not only delivered on that promise, but he showed true leadership by ordering the assassination of Osama Bin Laden and Al Awlaki. Obama promised to remove American fighting troops from Iraq. Again, Obama delivered on that promise. On every promise that didn’t heavily involve congress Barack Obama delivered. The Obama bashers insist that he has done nothing since being in office. If that is the case why would anyone need to repeal or take their country back. The mental salve needed to understand these statements is laughable, but the sound bites make for good narrative.

The “Bush Doctrine” was a failure. George W. Bush currently has the lowest approval rating in the history of a living President. Without saying so the American people have rejected the neo-conservative philosophy and policies represented by the Bush/Cheney/Rove administration (All white men). Conservatives have read the reports. They have seen the writing on the wall. Caucasians will soon be a minority. So they have doubled-down on stupid and diversified what White Supremacy looks and sounds like. Sure there are non-whites running around proporting the same racially code worded non-sense, but that is only to curry favor with the whites and a completely different psychological issues, one that the recently Supreme Court approved Affordable Healthcare plan will soon help them address.  The 3-strikes laws was said to not be racist, but it disproportionately affects black and brown minorities. The stats and figures all bear this out, a wink to white supremacy. No affirmative action rules, another wink to white supremacy. The Tea Party itself grew out of latent racism, many winks to white supremacy.

I can already hear them typing away saying that MG is making this racial, President Obama is half white. Really? We all make choices, some have embraced and internalized the tenets of White Supremacy, some look the other way and live their lives and there are others who shine a light on the cracks in order for us to have a better society. A position that was job of the NEWS, long ago when they served the public by informing them. Barack Obama had a white mother, grew up in a white home, so tell me how could he possibly relate to the average black person? Barack made black oriented choices for his destiny. He married Michelle, who is a descendant of a fully black slave. A woman he loves and with whom he had children with, thereby blackening his family’s line. It is primarily Barack Obama’s presence outside of sports and hip-hop that his staunchest supporters hate. He even draws the ire of black commentators, who constantly try to curry favor with networks and the masses, but fail to realize that Barack presence has increased their network viability ten-fold. They should be thanking Barack for running, winning and not sitting still, after all he does give them things to blather on about. This, and Clint Eastwood talking to s chair, is what happens when reasonable minds surrender the stage to charletons.

Then there are those whom our system doesn’t work for when they are losing, the Republicans. The Republicans are using Mitt Romney to gain power and cloud minds, yet they don’t like him, they don’t even trust him, furthermore he has streaks. The Republicans have to put out a candidate to get three billion of your tax dollars, through Matching Funds. These political parties put out a candidate, even when they know they can’t win…see the 2008 election. When what the public, through congress, should be asking why is the US militarily pushing further into Asia? If American foreign policies are correct why pay countries to not protest them? Why is the US selling  fighter jets to Taiwan? Why does the US have troops in 159 countries? Why have embassies in countries that don’t want us there? Why is the US spending 200 million in South America to run guns, drugs and cartel support, but instead of our media investigating and posing these questions we are presented with disingenuous polls on ‘which candidate treats their dog better?’  The Republicans knew the economy was going to be broken for an extended period of time and they didn’t want to be at the heart of that crap storm, just look at Europe. They assisted the Democrats in taking control of the government, to fix it. Once that is completely they will put forth real candidates for the prosperity era. This is how it is, this is how it is done. they talk of “Freedom” as if these white conservatives know anything about being oppressed. Try asking them that on Meet the Press, everything else is filler and rhetoric and the rhetoric is simply fear.

When the superstorm Sandy pounded the East Coast, President Obama toured the situation with Governor Chris Christie. The President freed up funds and cleared red tap and Governor Christie praised his efforts. Many in the republican party came out against Christie for praising the President, even though Christie was urged to run for president, but he declined. Any credit that the president deserves is always couched by negativity and racism. An AP study actually shows that racism towards blacks has increased to 51% of Americans now express explicit anti-black attitudes, since Barack Obama has been in office, so how much of this criticism of the President is actually racism? Neither liberals, nor conservatives are not destroying the country, the truth is that humans are failing humanity. Being liberal or conservative  is not a bad thing, but it is never good when it is financially or racially motivated. It’s time to accept that the era of White Supremacy is coming to an end. Conservatism, which is White Supremacy, has failed. And America–thankfully–is distributing more power to minorities, gays, liberals, and women. “Minorities” don’t like being minorities, so it must be terrifying for those in the dominate culture to slowly see their race becoming a minority one. Conservatives know that they have lost and are now attempting only to slow down the process and softening the landing. Whites folks, you don’t have to like it, but you should accept it.

Standing at a checkpoint in Israel with his assault rifle pointed over the heads of Palestinian Arabs, Marcus Hardie has to constantly remind himself, I am the good guy. Hardie was born and raised by his grandmother in a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of Los Angeles, a black youth stuck in the urban ghetto. He survived the ghetto and graduated from college, Marcus Hardie seemed destined for a future far from the violent surroundings of his childhood, an upbringing filled with urban gang warfare. He appointed to the Governor’s office. No one would have imagined, though, that he would soon become an elite anti-terror operative in one of the most violent places in the world: The Middle East.

From a gang life, to political future to being the 1st African American in the Israeli military, Black and Bulletproof is a journey of faith. This life of redemption is further proof that the bridge between worlds are not as far apart as we might think.

A Memoir

This is the second part of my exploration into the Retail Pharmacy. I have spoken with doctors, pharmacist, technicians, managers and other professionals and what I discovered about the retail Pharmacy business is pretty shocking.  This report is not about the miss-fills and errors, because much of that is under control and minimal besides Night line has already done those type of reports. Those ABC reports will be nothing like this series of articles. Besides while ABC is doing its special report on “Shopping Carts” this information has to be told, how else are we going to talk about it.  This gathered information is from workers at the big chain pharmacies  Rite Aide, Walgreens and CVS/Pharmacy.

The retail pharmacies have various slogans make it seem like that are here to help the public, but really the only exist to help you maintain your condition. Recently they have told their employees that they will get a 6% raise, but only gave them 4% raise, this is despicable, it is a recession so who is going to complain. Sure the 700% mark-ups and $8 per pill dispensing fees are unreasonable. Merger after merger has made these companies so powerful that no one cares when the corporation cuts an employees clock-in grace period time from 7 to 3 minutes in order to save money, but who is actually paying attention.

Ethics

Most pharmacist are considered experts in their field. However, the opinion of pharmacist are disregarded by the pharmacy companies that employ them. When it comes to medications, the patient and the business suits always seem to know more than the pharmacist. Pharmacist are routinely told to fill prescriptions that they know are fake to bolster sales, that also includes the patients that are frequently over medicating.

Pharmacist are routinely told to switch customers from brand name drugs to generic drugs. They are told this for several reasons; One the pharmacy gets a bigger profit off of the generic drug and two it often provides the customer with little to no savings on their insurance. This practice is a win-win for both the pharmacy and insurance company.

For example: Your doctor writes you a prescription for Vytorin. Vytorin is a brand only drug that does not have a generic. The insurance company won’t cover, charges a much higher co-pay or just does not want to pay the higher amount for the Vytorin, so they instructs the pharmacist to call your doctor to change your Vytorin prescription to Zocor (Zocor’s generic is Simvastatin which they will pay for) . They will do this and tell you that it will save you money, but in actuality the pharmacist and insurance companies know that Simvastatin does not do the same thing as Vytorin.  The doctor only prescribed you Vytorin because some hot female drug rep came into his office and told them to do it. I am not a doctor, but this all could have been avoided because Zocor by itself should be tried first, this is common knowledge.

Conscience Clauses

If a pharmacist has an ethical, moral or religious objection to dispensing Emergency Contraception, or Abortion Pills, they will be coerced into doing so, or moved to the worst and often violent pharmacy locations. Not only are Moral and Ethical obligations taught in Pharmacy school The American Pharmacists Association policy “recognizes the individual pharmacist’s right to exercise conscientious refusal and supports the establishment of systems to ensure patient access to legally prescribed therapy without compromising the pharmacist’s right of conscientious refusal. States have and may pass laws that restrict religious expression, but that is another matter for the Supreme Court to argue in regard to “Conscience Clauses.” By the way those companies charge $50 for the Emergency contraception pill(s), but the same dosage in a different form is and has been available for years at less than $12. By marketing these companies are using your reproductive process against you. Don’t believe me look it up…

Books that are changing everything

Harassment

Pharmacist have been directed to sign up customers for various programs, sometimes this is done without the patient’s knowledge. The calls and messages can be unending. For example you may be placed in an automatic refill program, which automatically refills your prescription each month. This auto refill happens each month whether you need the medication or not, almost forcing the patient to pick up the medication. The understaffed pharmacy personell is instructed to call each patient at least 3-4 times per week to ask if they want or need their medications. On paper this seems like a good program, but most customers and pharmacist feel that it is harassment. Many customers feel that these companies are only reminding them that they have an illness, or a condition for profit. These programs are not designed to help patients, they are designed to keep them dependent on pharmaceuticals.

Merry-go-round

Pharmacies switch customers drugs as often as every two months. This is especially true if the patient is on Thyroid, Birth Control, High Blood Pressure and Diabetes medications. What happens is that the corporation will order whatever is the cheapest generic medication that quarter. That cheaper product is not always the medication that you are accustomed to, so you make end up medication that is a different size, different color, different shape or different tasting than the one you are used to.

Insurance Coverage

Retail pharmacies have been cutting their employee children insurance. They have done this by introducing a few new provisions, one of which states that “you can not arbitrarily cover your child if they do not live with you.” This provision only affect a small percentage of employees and most of them are men. The amount of verifications and hoop jumping employees have to go through to get their children covered is absurd.

Coupons

Yes we all have done it. Transfer your prescription out of one pharmacy and into another one just to get one of those $25 gift cards.  It’s a recession and people need the extra money.  However, these quarterly promotions do more than fill your pockets with gift cards.  Pharmacies run sophisticated computer software that automatically checks drug interactions chain wide. The problem arises when you transfer prescriptions from other chains, or back and forth from chain to chain. Moving your medication from one pharmacy chain to another actually increase your chances of having a drug interaction, because there is no way for the computer to check another chain’s computer database. This is another one of many concerns that have fallen on deaf ears.

Transfers

Lets say that you want to transfer a prescription from one pharmacy chain to another, sounds simple enough, right? Pharmacist have been instructed to either call the other pharmacy back, or to put them on hold, while they call the customer to convince them to not move their prescription. Sometimes this is done by using disparaging remarks about another retail chain, or just making it difficult for them to do so. Who wants to wait on their medication while these companies play a corporate numbers games with each another?

The public should have never let Corporate Pharmacies and big Pharm define the terms of the debate and legislative agenda. Most pharmaceutical workers are intelligent,  nice and completely under appreciated not only by the corporations which employ them, but also by the customers they serve.

MG’s Health Advice: The Pap Smear is not as accurate to detect cervical cancer and HPV. Right now there are 10 million people on daily prescription drugs, with no medical need. Every 16 minutes someone dies from prescription drug use.

“New drug doesn’t mean better drug. ”

Sexism Racism

Walgreens has announced that they will no longer honor CVS/Pharmacy drug plan.
