Every year the NBA gives out an award for Rookie of the Year, for the most outstanding rookie player.  Members of the media are allowed to vote on who the award should go to. Since the fans who watch the games are not members of the media they do not get to vote, and no it doesn’t matter how many games you have watched.  So I decided to let everybody vote right here. Here are the three front runners for the award: Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry, Brandon Jennings, and (cough) MG Hardie… I was just joking about that I am not really  in the running.

The results are in…

Tyreke Evans (6-6)- He is a natural scorer with a potent combination of strength, quickness, body control and footwork. Excels at getting into the lane and making plays for himself and others. Terrific ball-handler with good vision.

PPG 20.3, RPG 5.20, APG 5.6

Evans was named MVP of the Rookie All-Star game. His first year numbers easily compare with the likes of  Lebron James, Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson as rookies. However, his team the Sacramento Kings will not make the playoffs.

Stephen Curry (6-2)– He can flat out score. He has a high basketball I.Q. He understands how to move with the ball to shake his defender.  Has great range on his jump shot. Good vision. A capable rebounder.

PPG 17.9, RPG 4.30, APG 5.6

He has a triple double and has been unflappable in close games. He seems to get stronger as the year has progressed. He has shown the poise that very few pros posses. However, his team the Golden State Warriors will not make the playoffs this year.

Brandon Jennings (6-1)- He is quick and has great leaping ability. He can consistently create his own shot. Very good ball-handler. Excellent court vision.

PPG 16.0, RPG 3.50, APG 6.0

He dropped a Double Nickle on the Golden State Warrior and ever since then to many he has been the leading candidate. He has powered the Milwaukee Bucks into the playoffs, where they haven’t been in 5 years.

This award is usually given based on where the candidates team finished, team impact,  scoring, but it really depends on what the voter values in a rookie.  Each of these rookies brings something unique to the table, regardless of the official results these rookie and and a lot of other one have made this year’s entire rookie class one of the best.

What Does MG Think?

(Three-Way Tie) Give the award to all three of these talented young men, because they all deserve it.

Results:

Stephen Curry 52%

Tyreke Evans 24%

Brandon Jennings 24%

These results are not at all what I expected. Curry had more votes than Evans and Jennings combined. Lets see what the official results will be.
